Getting started

Set up Enscale on your Shopify store — install, connect a channel, test the inbox, and build your first automation.

This guide takes you from a fresh install to a working setup: one connected channel, a working inbox, and one automation running safely.

Budget about 30 minutes, plus however long Meta takes to approve your first WhatsApp template.

Is Enscale right for you?

Enscale is built for Shopify merchants who want to:

  • Reply to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and webchat customers from one inbox.
  • Automate the messages that repeat — order updates, recovery, review requests.
  • Collect product reviews and show them on the storefront.
  • Send WhatsApp campaigns using their own Meta-approved templates.
  • Let AI answer common questions and escalate the rest to a person.

Setup

Install on Shopify

Install Enscale from the Shopify App Store and approve the requested scopes. You land in a first-run setup wizard.

See Shopify installation for what gets created and which permissions are used.

Complete first-run setup

The setup wizard collects your business basics and messaging preferences. You can't skip it — the rest of the app is gated behind it, because automations need this configuration to behave sensibly.

See First-run setup.

Connect a channel

Connect WhatsApp first if you plan to use automations or campaigns — it's the channel everything else assumes.

See WhatsApp setup. For the others: Instagram, Facebook, webchat.

Set up opt-in collection

Before you send any outbound WhatsApp message, decide how you'll collect consent — a checkout field, a popup, a keyword reply, or an import that already carries consent.

This isn't optional politeness. Messaging people who didn't opt in gets your WhatsApp number restricted by Meta.

Test inbound and reply

Message your own store from a test phone. Confirm the conversation appears in the inbox, reply to it, and confirm the reply arrives.

If this works, your channel is correctly connected. If it doesn't, see Troubleshooting.

Build one workflow

Start with a post-purchase review request. It's short, safe, and teaches you triggers, waits, lookups, and templates in one go.

Walkthrough: Build your first workflow.

Then add the rest

Once the inbox and one automation are solid, add campaigns, reviews, AI agents, and loyalty in whatever order matters most to your store.

You're live when

  • An inbound customer message reaches your inbox.
  • You can reply manually and the customer receives it.
  • Contacts and conversations show the right Shopify customer and order.
  • At least one automation has run successfully.
  • Your team knows where to handle conversations.

Things worth knowing early

  • Your inbox never gets cut off. Even if automations pause at a usage limit, manual replies keep working.
  • Contacts are unlimited on every plan, including Free.
  • Broadcasts and AI agents are paid-plan features. Your 7-day Starter trial includes both.
  • WhatsApp outbound needs opt-in. Enscale enforces this — it will skip contacts who haven't consented.
  • Free-form messages need an open 24-hour window. Outside it, use an approved template. See the service window rule.
  • Usage resets on the 1st of the calendar month, not on your Shopify billing date.
