Shopify installation
Install Enscale on a Shopify store — permissions requested, what gets created, and what to check afterwards.
Enscale installs from the Shopify App Store like any other app. This page covers what it asks for and what it sets up, so nothing is a surprise.
Before you install
You need:
- Access to the Shopify admin with permission to install apps.
- A decision on your plan, or willingness to start on the 7-day Starter trial (no card required).
What happens during install
Approve permissions
Shopify shows you the scopes Enscale requests. See Permissions requested below for what each is used for.
Your workspace is created
Each Shopify store maps to exactly one Enscale workspace, keyed to your shop domain. Everything — contacts, conversations, workflows, campaigns, reviews, AI agents, loyalty, usage — lives inside it and is never visible to another store.
Webhooks are registered
Enscale subscribes to the Shopify events it needs for automation triggers, ad attribution, and back-in-stock alerts. See Webhook reference for the full list.
Your trial starts
You get 7 days of Starter entitlements automatically, starting at install.
First-run setup opens
You land in the setup wizard. See First-run setup.
Permissions requested
| Scope | Why Enscale needs it |
|---|---|
read_customers | Match conversations to Shopify customers; show order history beside a chat. |
read_orders, write_orders | Order triggers and lookups; add order notes and tags from workflows. |
read_products, write_products | Product lookups, recommendations, and writing review rating metafields. |
read_inventory | Detect restocks for back-in-stock alerts. |
read_fulfillments | Shipping and delivery triggers. |
read_shipping | Shipping details in order messages. |
read_returns, write_returns | Return status in support conversations. |
read_discounts, write_discounts | Create and apply discounts from workflows and AI agents. |
read_price_rules, write_price_rules | Coupon and discount campaigns. |
write_draft_orders | Duplicate Order and COD-to-prepaid conversion flows. |
read_themes | Install and verify the storefront widget theme extension. |
Metafields Enscale creates
| Metafield | Where | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
app.webchat_url | Shop | The webchat URL your theme extension loads from. |
app.average_rating | Product | Published review average, for storefront star ratings. |
app.review_count | Product | Published review count. |
The two product metafields are readable by your theme, so you can show star ratings on collection and product pages without an Enscale script.
After installing
Work through these in order:
- Complete first-run setup.
- Connect at least one channel.
- Send a test inbound message and confirm it reaches your inbox.
- Reply to it and confirm delivery.
- Check your plan and usage in Settings → Billing.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling from Shopify tells Enscale to stop immediately: automations stop, campaigns stop, and no further messages are sent.
Your data is retained for a limited window so a reinstall restores your setup, then deleted. To export or delete sooner, see Data export and deletion.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Install loops back to the start | Third-party cookies blocked, or an ad blocker interfering with the embedded app. Try a different browser. |
| App won't load in Shopify admin | Reload the Shopify admin tab. If it persists, uninstall and reinstall. |
| Shopify events aren't triggering workflows | Check your workflow is Active, and see Webhook reference. |
| Permissions changed after an update | Shopify prompts you to re-approve. Until you do, features needing the new scope won't work. |
