Data export and deletion
Export your Enscale data, handle GDPR customer requests, and understand what happens when you uninstall.
You can export your data at any time, and Enscale handles Shopify's mandatory GDPR requests automatically.
Exporting your data
Request an export from your account settings. Enscale prepares an archive and notifies you when it's ready to download.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Queued. |
| Processing | Being assembled. |
| Ready | Available to download. |
| Failed | Something went wrong — request again or contact support. |
| Expired | The download window closed. Request a fresh export. |
Export links expire. That's deliberate — an archive of your entire customer conversation history shouldn't sit on a permanent URL.
What's included
Contacts, conversations and messages, workflows, campaigns and their results, reviews, loyalty accounts and ledger entries, and usage records.
GDPR requests from Shopify
Shopify requires every app to handle three privacy webhooks. Enscale implements all three, and you don't need to do anything for them to work.
| Request | What Enscale does |
|---|---|
customers/data_request | Assembles that customer's data for you to provide to them. |
customers/redact | Deletes that customer's personal data. |
shop/redact | Deletes all data for the store, 48 hours after uninstall. |
Every one of these is recorded in the audit log with a timestamp.
Audit log
Enscale records the events that matter for compliance:
| Event | Recorded when |
|---|---|
| Workspace registered | You install. |
| Workspace reactivated | You reinstall after uninstalling. |
| Pending deletion | Deletion was requested. |
| Deleted | Data was removed. |
| Export requested / ready / downloaded / expired | Each stage of an export. |
| Customer data requested | A GDPR data request arrived. |
| Customer redacted | A customer's data was deleted. |
| Shop redacted | Store data was deleted. |
What happens when you uninstall
Everything stops immediately
Automations stop, campaigns stop, no further messages are sent, and your channels disconnect.
Your data is held briefly
Your workspace is marked pending deletion but retained, so reinstalling shortly after restores your setup rather than starting from scratch.
Shopify sends shop/redact
Shopify sends this 48 hours after uninstall. Enscale deletes your data and records it in the audit log.
If you want your data before it's deleted, request an export before you uninstall. Once redaction runs, it's gone.
Deleting sooner
To have your data deleted before the automatic window, contact support. You'll be asked to confirm, since it can't be undone.
What Enscale stores
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Contacts | Identity, channel handles, consent evidence. |
| Conversations and messages | Your support history. |
| Shopify references | Customer, order, and product IDs for context. |
| Consent history | Where and when each opt-in or opt-out came from. |
| Media | Images, audio, and documents customers sent. |
| Usage records | Metering for billing. |
Consent history is retained deliberately: it's the evidence that you had permission to message someone, which is exactly what you need if a customer or Meta ever asks.
