Coupon popups
Offer a discount on your storefront in exchange for a WhatsApp opt-in, and deliver the code over WhatsApp automatically.
A popup on your store offers a discount in return for a phone number and permission to message on WhatsApp. They give you the number; Enscale sends the code over WhatsApp.
This is the single most effective way to build an opted-in list, because the customer gets something immediately in return.
Why to do this before anything else
Every WhatsApp feature in Enscale depends on opt-in. Campaigns skip people who haven't consented. Automations can't message them.
Without a steady opt-in source you end up with the frustrating combination of a large contact list and a small sendable audience — 8,000 contacts and 600 people you're allowed to message.
The popup fixes that at the moment of highest intent: someone who is on your site, right now, looking at your products.
How it works
The shopper fills in the popup
They enter their number and tick a box agreeing to receive WhatsApp messages.
A contact is created, with consent recorded
Consent is stored with the source Storefront popup, so you have evidence of exactly where it came from and when.
Your automation runs
The Popup Subscriber trigger fires.
The code arrives on WhatsApp
Your flow sends it.
Build the delivery flow
Trigger: Popup Subscriber
→ Template Message: welcome + coupon codeSend the code over WhatsApp, not on the popup
This is the whole point, and it's worth being deliberate about. Delivering the code by WhatsApp:
- Confirms the number is real — a fake number gets no code.
- Puts your first message in their WhatsApp thread, so you're now someone they've heard from.
- Opens the 24-hour window, so you can follow up with a free message rather than a paid template.
Showing the code on the popup itself gets you a lot of junk numbers and none of the above.
Add a reminder
Trigger: Popup Subscriber
→ Template Message: the coupon code
→ Wait 2 days
→ Condition: have they used it?
→ No: Template Message: a reminderTwo messages is plenty. A third reads as pestering someone who just did you a favour by handing over their number.
Worked example: what to offer
You sell skincare, average order ₹1,800.
A weak popup: "Sign up for exclusive offers!" — no stated value, so few people bother.
A strong popup: "Get ₹200 off your first order — sent straight to your WhatsApp. Plus order updates, no spam."
That version works because it does four things:
- Names the value. ₹200 is concrete; "exclusive offers" is not.
- Says where it's going — WhatsApp, so the number request makes sense.
- Says what else you'll send — order updates — which sets expectations and cuts later opt-outs.
- Says what you won't do. "No spam" is worth including.
On a ₹1,800 order, ₹200 is an 11% cost of acquiring both a customer and a permanent WhatsApp contact you can message for free-ish forever. That second part is what makes the maths work.
Four rules for popups that convert
Be specific about the value. "₹200 off your first order" beats "10% off" beats "exclusive offers". People hand over a phone number for a known amount.
Put an expiry on it. A code that's good forever gets saved and forgotten. 48–72 hours converts far better.
Don't fire it on page load. A popup that appears before anyone has seen a product converts badly and annoys people. Trigger on exit intent, or after some real engagement.
Say what else you'll send. Setting expectations at signup is the cheapest way to reduce opt-outs later.
Consent has to be real
The checkbox must be a genuine, unticked choice, and it must say what the customer is agreeing to.
Pre-ticked boxes, or consent buried in fine print, produce contacts who don't remember agreeing to anything. They opt out, they report your messages as spam, and your WhatsApp quality rating drops — which hurts deliverability for every customer, not just the annoyed ones.
One opt-in the customer clearly remembers making is worth several they don't.
Seeing what it earned
Purchases from popup signups are attributed to the Coupon popup source on the Revenue page, so you can weigh what the popup earned against the discounts it cost you.
Use Format link for any URL in the delivery message, or the click won't be traceable.
